Haleakala National Park changes are on their way for park visitors.   Here are 3 ways that Haleakala is looking to make the 2017 park season better than it has been in the past.

  1. Reservations for Watching Sunrise – Beginning Feb, 1 2017 the National Park Service at Haleakala National Park will begin taking reservations at http://www.reservations.gov for watching sunrise between 3-7 AM.  This policy was created to make viewing more reasonable, as parking is becoming more constrained.  You must make your reservations 60 days in advance, or there will be no entry to the park. There is a $1.50 fee for the reservation, on top of typical park fees.
  2. Haleakala has created a new video providing information to people spending a few majestic days in the backwoods.  Hiking Haleakala National Park can be a dangerous activity both to yourself and the park if you do not come completely prepared. https://www.nps.gov/hale/planyourvisit/hiking.htm
  3. Maui, Hawaii is fortunate to have had a webcam added to Haleakala National Park.  Now you can see the quality of the conditions before you take the several hour drive to the top.  https://www.nps.gov/hale/learn/photosmultimedia/index.htm
